Where was President Peter?

Peter in fact sent his apologies from Cradle Mountain, Tasmania.  Since most of us had a nice relaxing holiday over the Christmas period, some (including Peter) in the hospitality, service and retail industries worked their butts off.  So it's Peter's time for his holiday.  Narelle and he will return in a few weeks after a circumnavigation of Tasmania.
Ahead of his Indian touring adventure, Ian Belcher took the chair in his new shirt and in a very accomplished manner.
PDG Alan Still OAM took us to France, specifically to the Rotary Club of Lannion, France in District 1650 where our Rotary Youth Exchange student, Jess is based.

We welcomed Honorary Members Alf, Keith & Jan (for the last time this trip) and took other apologies; Gordon reported that Norm does not appear well.
President-in-waiting Bernie covered a number of matters in her report - a successful Australia Day BBQ at Gerry's (see the photos here, or later in this bulletin), application has been made for a Rotary Youth Exchange student from France or Japan, and snippets from The Rotarian which prompted Gordon to relay his experience being detained in the UK for six months because he had lost his passport.

Our Guest Speaker, Michelle Lightworker has been a Rotarian for less than two years when she became a member of the Rotary E-Club of World Peace.

The club meets on-line every Wednesday at 12.30 AUST and anyone may attend.  It uses Zoom which some of our Board members are familiar with!

Michelle showed us the club's website, showed us part of a documentary featuring the Four Way Test, and answered a number of questions about the E-Club and e-clubs generally.  For more about Rotary e-clubs click here, or see the article later in this bulletin.

Bunnings BBQ

BBQ matters - Gerry sounded us out on the feasibility of accepting Bunnings' offer of a BBQ on both Saturday 28 April and Sunday 29 April.  An encouraging response will see us BBQ'ing on both days that weekend.  Well done!

RYDA

Neville announced that a 10 year celebration will be held on 23 March with club Presidents, volunteers, and schools invited to attend.  He also reminded us that volunteers are required for one or all of the 26,27 & 28 February RYDA days  - click here to register or send your apology.

Kokopo

The Rotary Club of Kokopo (Rabaul) - Merv updated the meeting on the status of this club, the continuation of which is vital to DIK activities in this area.  The Board has decided to pay the dues payable by the Kokopo club ($446) which will enable the club to continue until next 30 June when it is hoped that other Rotary clubs in our cluster will meet the dues then payable.
