This week’s meeting  saw a couple of key players succumb to various ills.  Stephen, who was rostered for the Introduction called in sick, but was ably replaced by Chairman, Les.

President Peter (me!) awoke without his voice so was unable to make his report.  We really need to recruit some good Pharmacists into our Club, then I’m sure these things wouldn’t happen.

Once again, we were delighted to host two guests.  Ken McMullin, who is a regular from Victoria, at this time of year.  Welcome again, Ken.  Our what looks like being a potential member, Greg McRae attended our Meeting again.  It’s great to see Greg coming along.  Let’s hope he wants to continue and become a new Member of our Club.  Welcome Greg !

As was decided at our Club Forum at our previous week’s Meeting, the segment, “Three minutes on Me” started.  Our elder statesman, Alan Still delighted us all with the short story of his very interesting life.  Thank you Alan for providing us with this interesting insight.
We were then entertained by our guest speaker, David Woodrow, a Rotarian from the Alexandra Headland Club, who spoke about the Life Flight Helicopter Rescue Service.  It was a fascinating presentation, with David showing us the many different caps he has worn throughout the life of this vital service.  The number of caps were only matched by the number of different paint jobs on the helicopters.

Our Club has decided to donate a vital piece of equipment to the Life Flight Service.  Thank you Arnaldo for the vote of thanks and organizing this.

Merv and Anne Paddison, who were present, have a very close affinity with Life Flight.  Their son, Andrew, suffered a broken neck in a bike riding accident and had to be airlifted to hospital by this service.  Andrew is determined to pay back the rescue team who saved his life.  He is participating in a fund raising bike ride.  If anyone would like to assist by donating large or small amounts, please contact Merv or Anne or follow this link for more information.

Bernie, in her role as Vocational Director, presented our Club’s Pride of Workmanship Award to our friendly Oaks Maitre-D, Stephen Mason.  Stephen always goes above and beyond to see that our Members are well looked after, every Breakfast Meeting.

Congratulations Stephen on receiving your much deserved award. Keep up the great work !

Our resident Leprechaun, Gordon Hamilton, almost cracked a wry smile when he announced the details of the “Almost St Patrick’s Day” Golf Day.  Gordon and his committee of merry men and women have been busy organizing a special incentive deal for prospective sponsors.  We would dearly love to sell all 18 holes this time.  To encourage sponsorship, sponsors who purchase a hole at $1000 prior to 30th November, go into the draw to win $500 worth of STOCK from the man himself, Dan Murphy.  Just in time for Christmas.

The Rotary Golf Day is our Club’s major fundraiser for the year.  If you’d like your business to gain exposure, or you know someone who might, please contact Gordon, and you might find yourself with a fully stocked bar and wine cellar.

Gerry called upon volunteers for our next Bunning’s BBQ, which is to be held on Wednesday the 26th of July.  If you are available to assist, please contact Gerry.

I have just received word that one of our newest Members, Matt Veldhuis, who has just moved here from Canada, has had to return to Canada for family reasons.  Unfortunately, Matt has had to resign from our Club.  We will miss Matt, as he was an injection of youth with Rotary experience for our Club.  We wish him and his family all the best, back in Canada.

Thank you to all those who attended the Breakfast Meeting.  Unfortunately, we ran out of time for a Sergeant Session, so I’m sure Deb will be doubly in form next week.  (In fact, the Sergeant was a 'no-show' anyway - perhaps she has run out of incriminating material Ed.)

Don’t forget, Christmas in July Celebrations this Saturday night at Sue Robinson’s.  Look forward to seeing you there!
