The ShelterBox Operations team have been monitoring the progress of Tropical Cyclone Donna as it slowly passes over parts of Vanuatu and heads towards New Caledonia. Damage reports are still coming in but it is likely that local authorities will be able to cope with the needs of those affected. We will continue to standby, ready to respond if needed, but 'Donna' serves as a reminder of just how vulnerable our Pacific neighbours are to natural disasters. Disaster preparedness is as important as disaster response and by sourcing and stockpiling aid at various locations around the globe, we are able to be prepared for the worst, whilst hoping for the best.

Long term supporters will have noticed how we have moved away from only deploying ShelterBoxes to spending more time assessing the situation and sending aid that is aligned to beneficiary needs.  In the latest ShelterBox eNews you will see that in some cases, boxes are still the best response (see Colombia), in others, such as Peru and Mozambique, it's a mixture of ShelterKits and other essential items, like solar lights and mosquito nets. Flexibility and adaptability are essential in modern-day disaster relief.

As we approach the end of the financial year, ShelterBox thanks you for your continued support and reminds you that all donations are tax-deductible.
