Next week's meeting
Shelagh Brennand will be presenting to us next Tuesday on Being a Stroke Safe Ambassador.

She will bring the latest news on Stroke Prevention and Life after a Stroke.  New funding is providing much research into this area.

Projects funded include expanding the use of a smartphone app to improve communication between ambulance and hospital staff, and research into sexuality after stroke.  Other funded projects include utilising telehealth to deliver memory rehabilitation for stroke survivors and a study looking at how much exercise is needed to improve fitness in stroke survivors.

President's Musings
A very important day for our Club, being the first visit from our District Governor, John Lane and his lovely wife, Bo, during his year in the top job.  Congratulations on such a large number of members who came along and in particular, thank you for making the DG and his wife feel so welcome.

As well as out two VIP guests, we had our Assistant Governor, Wendy Gilsam, from the Kawana Club present.  Once again we were joined by our resident Victorian Rotarian Ken, regular guest Greg McRae and someone who is quite familiar to us, Jim Lombard (minus a couple of fingers), who was recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) at our ChangeOver Dinner.  Jim is chomping at the bit to join our Club and we look forward to welcoming him, when the process is complete.

RYPEN 2017 develops potential
The Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) aims to provide young people with the opportunity to develop their potential and self-esteem, provide experiences that will assist them to form their own values and moral standards, and to broaden their cultural, social and academic horizons.  The program pushes students to develop their leadership skills so that they can excel in their field.

This year the Rotary Club of Caloundra sponsored Hailey Morse to RYPEN held at the Luther Heights Youth Camp, Coolum Beach.  The camp started Friday afternoon 11 August and continued until Sunday.  Hailey is a close friend of Lilly Lang who attended RYPEN last year.  Lilly spoke to this year's students on how much this camp did for her last year.  Lilly is also keen to become a Junior Leader but has to wait for a couple of years yet.  Our member Darryl’s wife Shirley (Lilly’s grandmother) also attended this year's dinner.
