Despite a large contingent of our Members visiting our Sister Club, the Rotary Club of Komaki, in Japan, we still had a fantastic turnout for Breakfast.
The door position this week was an Architectural one, with Roger doing it differently and facing away from the entering guests. You may have to bring your sunglasses next time, Roger.
PDG Alan OAM took us to Rotary District 9420, Ghana, and the Rotary Club of Accra. If you'd like to read a little more about this interesting area of Africa, please click here.
Chair for the day was Helen. A big congratulations must go to Helen for providing us with such amazing Guest Speakers. Our Guest Speaker this week, Adam Benjamin, drew the biggest crowd of guests to our Club that I've seen. Thanks must also go to our PR Director, Mr Les Walsh, from the "Les Walsh Show", who spread the news of our Guest, far and wide.
The Komaki Rotary Club of Japan is our Sister Club. It celebrated the 50th Anniversary of it's Charter on 11 April when a number of our members attended the Celebration.
Developing the next generation of leaders is the core of Rotary's support for youth and young people in the greater Caloundra area.
Caloundra Rotary - like Rotary Clubs across Australia - sponsors young people in the development of skills in the areas of communication, leadership, road safety education and driver awareness, resilience and self esteem and in furthering their career aspirations in the areas of mathematics and science.
The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) has been operating for over 30 years and its aim is to encourage young Australians to be the next generation of leading scientists, engineers and mathematics experts supporting a sustainable future for our nation. Students moving into Year 12 who wish to follow careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are introduced to research and researchers and encouraged to achieve excellence in their undertakings by helping to develop their communication and interpersonal skills.
Each year, Caloundra Rotary sponsors two students to attend NYSF.
Nicole and Jaime were sponsored to the 2018 NYSF
They will be joining us on Tuesday morning to tell us what they learned of science - and about themselves when they attended NYSF2018.
Rotary Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to experience people and other cultures and promote international understanding and peace.
The purpose of the Rotary Youth Exchange program is to build bridges of friendship and understanding among people of the world. We accomplish this by providing opportunities for high school students to live for a year in a foreign country and learn to assimilate into the country’s culture and language.
Acting as ambassadors of goodwill while they are on exchange, the students live with two or more appropriate host families during the exchange period and attend high school or pre-university schooling.
Caloundra Rotary is proud to be sponsoring two students in 2018 - one outgoing to France and one incoming from France.
For inbound students, Caloundra Rotary is responsible for finding host families and arranging for schooling, in addition to providing the student with a monthly allowance to help offset the cost of school lunches and other regular expenses. The student attends our regular meetings at least once a month as a guest, and is involved in club activities, including community and social events.
Outbound students represent our club in their host club, attend one or two meetings before and after their exchange, and send their news back to us to share with club members.
Observe constantly that all things take place by change and accustom thyself to consider that the nature of the universe loves nothing so much as to change the things which are and to make new things like them.
Caloundra Rotary members are always looking for ways to be involved in our local Caloundra community in order to assist others. Share your ideas with us.
We also look to improve lives in communities around the world.
A list of our current projects may be viewed here. They could total $22,000 but that is a guess. In addition, we have ongoing commitments to causes we support of about $25,000.
That is an impressive story for People of Action in Caloundra Rotary. We hope you agree?
