President Peter's Musings
There was a buzz in the air at Breakfast this week.  Something about the AGM, someone was heard to have said.  That's right, it was to be our Annual General Meeting, with the election of Officers for Bernie's year as President.

Speaking of Bernie, she's everywhere, this time, at the front desk, taking our money as we arrive.

In our midst, we had our special guest, and prospective new member, Rachael Witton.  Rachael is well known to many of us, in her former role with SunnyKids, being the recipient of our Golf Day fundraising.  Welcome Rachael.  We hope to see a lot more of you and look forward to the opportunity of using your skills to the betterment of our Club.

Visiting Rotarian, Trevor from the Albany Creek Club was also present.  Thank you Trevor for coming along again and choosing our club to do a makeup.
Our very respected elder statesman and man with the photographic memory (even though he can't see), was at it again with the International Toast. This time Alan took us to the Rotary Club of Belfast, Ireland.  Please see the link here to the club's Website, and thank you Alan for displaying your amazing memory.
Iain Nye has had a varied work life - Iain is one of our longstanding members and spun a very interesting tale about family, work and boats.  Again this regular segment of our meeting showed its benefit.  Thank you Iain.

Our Sergeant at Arms, Deb, tinkled the bell and the AGM was underway.

Head's up

What's ahead

  • The club Christmas Party is being held at Ann & Merv's home on Saturday 16 December - again, an RSVP is important at this link
  • Our last regular meeting for 2017 is on 19 December - see Santa's plans here
  • The first meeting in 2018 will be on Tuesday 16 January - it is billed as a slow start as most of us will still be in  recovery mode
  • The meeting on 23 January is being transformed into a 'mobile meeting' whereby two or three of us will be requested to visit each of the other Rotary clubs in our cluster or vicinity.  A roster might be a good idea to ensure we limit numbers!
  • On 30 January, we will receive reports from the visits to other clubs

Gateway Care serves the Community
Gateway Care is a very worthwhile local community based organisation that the Rotary Club of Caloundra supports.

Gateway Care has perhaps the largest “Food Centre” of it’s kind in South East Qld with more than 5,000 members on its database. Gateway provides an essential support to many low income families who enjoy the benefit of buying low cost groceries from the Food Centre.

A delegation from Caloundra Rotary had a coffee with Gateway's Manager, Debbie to present a small donation and a Certificate of Appreciation to support this worthy cause.

We Can All Have Fun
"For me fun came to work when we joined Rotary. We became the first corporate member of our club. We joined to be more connected with our local community, not necessarily just to have fun. But the consequence was that we have new friends, and they are amazing people with a lifetime of experience and humour to share.

"We hold barbecues to raise money for victims of domestic violence, or we sell raffle tickets to support those doing it tough at Christmas. We even drop balls out of helicopters to raise awareness and funds for aeromedical services. More than anything we support each other, share stories, and we laugh. Suddenly, with a little perspective, with the right people and getting out and about, it all becomes fun."

Tatiana Porter, CEO Workplace Central - a corporate member of the Rotary Club of Caloundra Pacific
