President Peter's Musings
Members awoke to another wintery blast, but still managed to fill almost all the seats at our Breakfast Meeting. Helen met us all at the desk in her bright and chirpy manner.  Arnaldo presided in the Chair and proceeded to take charge of the morning.
Our guests this morning included our Guest Speaker Terry Gaughan and his wife, Julie who is HPIs Secretary, who provided us with a presentation about their organisation, Humanitarian Projects International Inc.  Judy introduced our Speaker and we all thoroughly enjoyed what was said and it was noted how similar HPI is to Rotary.

Next Tuesday's Meeting
Next Tuesday's meeting is a Vocational Visit to Gateway Care at 11 Helen Street, West Caloundra.
Gateway Care is a Community based organisation that offers “holistic” support to the community to help meet real needs. Programs and services are offered that help with basic fundamental issues of life through their “Food Centre” and our Men’s Shed and through our charity work in the Community and overseas.

Through practical support programs, Gateway hope to help address social welfare issues and offer Life Skills training programs to bring wholeness and well being to our community and where ever they can be of assistance.

September is .. Basic Education and Literacy Month
“When you teach somebody how to read, they have that for a lifetime. It ripples through the community, one by one.”

We know that basic education and literacy are essential for reducing poverty, improving health, encouraging community and economic development, and promoting peace.  Rotary clubs all over the world are taking action to enhance basic education and literacy in their communities.  Every community has different needs and different opportunities to serve.  This publication, “Basic Education and Literacy Project Strategies” helps you ask the right questions, identify real needs, and make the greatest possible impact with the time, energy, and resources you have at your disposal,

RI President's Message - September 2017
One of the best parts of any Rotary convention is the sheer diversity of the people you see there. Whether you're heading into a breakout session, exploring the House of Friendship, or sitting down for a bite to eat, you'll meet people from every corner of the world, in all kinds of national attire, speaking just about every language. It's a lot of fun, and it's a big part of what makes Rotary great: that we can be so different and still find ourselves so at home together.

That spirit of warm community that is so central to Rotary also defines Toronto, our host city for the 2018 Rotary International Convention. ...

September weekend away at Toohoolawah
On Saturday 30 September, the Queensland Governor will be coming to Toogoolawah to unveil a specially sculptured stag at our new art gallery.

Norm has commissioned a beautifully leather bound visitor's book for the gallery which the Governor will sign (first in the book, followed by Norm)

To cap it all off the Stag is named Norman!!

The history behind the deer is that Queen Victoria gave our town two deer and that is the reason for the sculpture.

Norm has a huge Toogoolawah connection and I'm wondering if Rotarians would like to support him on this special occasion.

I have yet to confirm the actual time for the ceremony but for those with caravans or any happy campers they are more than welcome to set up on my farm the Friday before.

We can work out the finer details a little later, Anna

Please contact Anna if you are interested.
