Gorgeous Gordon our Leprechaun Golfer, met us all with a friendly smile at the desk this morning. We were joined by three Rotarians from our Daughter Club, Caloundra Pacific, who willingly explained to us they had been sent on a mission to spy on our Club, and see what a great Club we are. Thanks for coming gentleman, I hope you were impressed.
Alan's International Toast continued to follow disaster areas of the world. This week he took us to District 4100, Mexico, which is recovering from a huge earthquake. We wish all residents a speedy and healthy outcome.
Our Chair for the morning was our profuse photographer and Facebook poster, Les. True to form, Les, who likes to conduct his own style of meeting, delighted us with his own mix of proceedings. What Chris thought was a Geiger Counter, turned out to be Les' latest toy, a high tech Selfie Stick. The results of which have been emailed for you all to see and placed on our website.
Katie Brown is the Community Services Manager for Sundale Limited. She will be our guest speaker on Tuesday (19 September), presenting on the topic 'Aged Care Systems & Services'.
Sundale is the largest not-for-profit aged care service provider (with no church affiliation). It was established in the 1960’s by Rotary and are Sunshine Coast born and bred, with our head office in Nambour.
In 2015, the Government introduced a range of aged care reforms and these changes continue with new rules being added into the mix every six months or so. Sundale's experience when working with people over 65 years of age is that they are more confused than ever and many do not understand the system, the funding, what’s available in the community, and when is the right time to get help.
Join us for our Last Friday of the Month Social evening ON - Wednesday 27 September. Yes that's right, the last Friday has become the last Wednesday just for September.

And this time it is BYO Wine/Beer/Soft drinks only - for $35 a head, Genta will lead us through a Japanese menu with an explanation for each dish.
If you have not done so already, please RSVP as a matter of urgencyby following this link (& don't forget to decline if you can't make it to avoid repeat emails).

The Rotary Foundation and clubs along the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana, USA, are collecting emergency relief funds to help flood victims of Hurricane Harvey, which slammed into southeast Texas over the weekend. A Gulf Coast Disaster Relief Donor Advised Fund has been established.
ShelterBox currently has nine active deployments and needs your support. Also refer to this article about how Rotary is helping.
Category 5 Hurricane Irma is currently barrelling through the Caribbean with sustained wind speeds of 300 km/h. ShelterBox is sending out a highly-trained ShelterBox Response Team today to understand how we can help families who have lost everything. The Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and Florida are still in the potential path of this ferocious storm.
But it's not just these countries who have been affected by adverse weather - the last two weeks have brought devastating flooding around the world. More than 1.7 million people have been affected in Nepal, while a third of Bangladesh is under water. Huge areas of India and Myanmar are also in need of support.
Help ShelterBox build a world where no family goes without shelter. Will you support ShelterBox today? Donate now Donations may also be forwarded through the Rotary Club of Caloundra.
Disaster Aid Australia (DAA) has been in contact with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) to ascertain the eligibility of those countries affected by Irma.
DFAT have advised these counties are eligible to receive Australian Aid:
Antigua and Barbuda
Dominican Republic
Cuba
DAA is briefing DART’s (DAA representatives?) to deploy to Antigua & Barbuda, Dominican Republic, (Cuba subject to Cuban Government approval). In both countries DAA will be working with local Rotary contacts.
Furthermore, Disaster Aid Australia has had requests and is considering how best we can assist the countries in the Indian Sub Continent affected by floods, countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh and India.
More updates once the DART assessments are to hand.
