Next Tuesday's Meeting
Humanitarian Projects International Inc. is an Australian based, not-for-profit organisation that operates by sending teams of caring volunteer workers wherever needed to relieve poverty and distress, thereby giving hope and a future to orphans and other underprivileged people of the world.

Terry Gaughan is HPI's General Manger and he will be presenting at our breakfast meeting next Tuesday.  He is now retired but dedicated to helping those less fortunate than himself through his volunteer work with HPI.  Julie, his wife, is Secretary.

President Peter's Musings
Another cold morning and another good attendance.  It's always refreshing to see so many happy faces at 6.30am on a winter's morning.

We welcomed our soon to be inducted member, Jim Lombard, and for the last time before he heads back to the land of four seasons in a day, Rotarian Ken.

Alan Still OAM, proposed the International Toast to the Micronesian Island of Guam.  We are all hoping that the statistics once again quoted by Alan, remain current for a long time and are not changed by the advent of nuclear war.  Heaven forbid!

Rather ironically, our Chairperson for the morning, Stephen Engstrom, was sporting an extra cheesy smile. Stephen and his partner, Annie, ran away to Palm Cove on the weekend and came back married.
We wish them both, all the best for a healthy and happy life together, and offer our congratulations on this fantastic occasion.

Helen introduced our Guest Speaker, Shelagh Brennand.  Shelagh suffered a Stroke at a relatively young age and since then has become a Stroke Ambassador.  She speaks regularly about the warning signs of Stroke and the Risk Factors associated.
Shelagh pens poetry for a living as well.  She is selling copies of her book at just $15, a special price for Stroke Week.  We were all delighted to hear two of her poems, spoken in her beautifully broad Yorkshire accent.  We wish Shelagh all the best in her role as a Stroke Ambassador.

Thank you all for coming along today and a reminder of next week's duties,

Chair - Arnoldo
Desk - Trevor (we need a replacement)
Intro - Judy
3MM - Pam

Have a great week and weekend and I look forward to seeing you all again next week.

Outstanding teamwork
A quiet hot day with slow but steady patron flow, abundant labour and a Chief Cook who refused to eat the excellent fare he was churning out (vis perfectly grilled gourmet sausages from our exclusive foreign supplier aka ALDI + lashing of lightly glazed and caramelised finest bespoke onions from the rich market gardens at Gatton hand sliced on an automatic machine). Instead this recalcitrant - nay Philistine - grilled a steak for lunch on OUR BBQ!!!

Anyhow, sufficient ravings, net outcome was a profit of $484.52 which for a slow mid-week can be considered about par for the course.

Many thanks for the many helpers who set up (Arnaldo, Da and did the first shift (Prez Peter, Judy, Pam, Chef Keith and (later) Lyn. The afternoon crew of Alan, Sue Robbo and Keith closed early due to lack of interested patrons around 3 pm assisted by the packup crew of Roger and Iain.

Done, dusted and home before 4pm. What a great crew.

We must do it again some time - how about end of September? Watch this space and book your place here.

Looks like steak in future?

So, sausages for lunch not good enough for some of us?
That steak sandwich looks good Keith!
Thanks to Alan for the photo
