Mark and Irish wish to invite you to a "taste of Philippines" to discuss our Club's proposed visit to Bohol Philippines during mid-October 2019.
We intend to have a sister club visit with RC of Tagbilaran and also view the SACH fish pond project.
We are in the early stages of planning a 2nd project at SACH to supply medical equipment. So hopefully we may be able to inspect their new medical clinic.
There will be plenty of time for tourist activities and Bohol has plenty to offer all tastes.
Also, overnight we received a pic of the first fish to be cooked from the fish pond and I can't resist including a pic of that.
The location will be at our home at:
Upstairs
159 Esplanade, Golden Beach
[Diamond Head area and about mid-way on the Esplanade between Military Jetty and Bells Creek boat ramp]
Timing will be 5pm to 6pm on Sunday 14 April.
And you will definitely get a "taste of the Philippines" as Irish is planning some delicious snacks and a drink or two.
Darryl will also be there to answer any travel questions you might have.
Please join us to learn more about visiting Bohol by responding on the link below; you can also use that link to let us know you're not coming.

Swimdo
May 07, 2019
An avid surfer from San Francisco, California, Seamus has travelled the world in pursuit of the best swells, ultimately leading him to making Bali his home. Seamus founded Swimdo in 2015, after noticing a ubiquitous lack of swimming education in the local communities, especially among children. Seamus started out going to villages and teaching the children himself. Now he recruits local teachers, provides trainings and develops new swimming schools. Most recently he started a water safety program in an indigenous Dayak community in central Borneo. Seamus graduated from the University of Oregon in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. |

Destiny Rescue
Jun 11, 2019
Nerilee’s passion for helping those less advantaged can be traced back over many decades with 40 humanitarian trips behind her to all corners of the globe. Her first trip was taken at just 19 years old to Papua New Guinea where she was airlifted into many remote villages to help out in whatever way she could. This experience motivated Nerilee to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than herself.
Nerilee is the Relationship and Team Trip Manager at Destiny Rescue, an internationally-recognized Christian, not-for-profit organization; dedicated to rescuing children trapped in the sex trade. This role perfectly combines Nerilee’s humanitarian experience with her love of adventure and helping others.
In her spare time, you could find Nerilee riding a wave, paddling a kayak, climbing a mountain (ok a hill), jumping 15,000 feet out of a plane to help save children trapped in human trafficking or snow skiing the Japanese Alps. Nerilee has a wicked sense of humour, is warm, down to earth and refreshingly honest. She is available as an enlightening speaker providing information on how your organisation can partner with Destiny Rescue to help rescue and empower young lives from the sex trade. If you’d like to see first-hand what we do in our overseas projects, Nerilee can organise and lead your private or shared team trips to Cambodia and Thailand.

That sums it up pretty well especially the last point. I like to work as part of a team engaging members in our activities so that people feel they have a part to play in the club development and projects.
Better still, come along on Tuesday morning to listen, learn and participate.

Humanitarian Projects International
Jul 16, 2019
My Journey began in 2006 after seeing a performance of a Ugandan children's choir from the Watoto Ministries. Soon after, I joined with other like minded people to form an organisation called Mission Watoto Australia. From this small beginning WM underwent a name change and a restructure and became Humantarian Projects International Inc. As HPI we were not restricted to Uganda and were able to branch out to different areas of the world where we could continue to assist orphans and other disadvantaged people. More to come at the meeting on the 16th July. |

Rosies (Friends on the Street)
Sep 10, 2019
My name is Carolyn Wilson. I have been a volunteer with the Caloundra branch of Rosies – Friends on the Street for 18 years and the majority of that time as the Co-ordinator. I was acknowledged as a Life Member in November 2017 in recognition of my ongoing contribution to Rosies. I have a passion for helping the homeless and those less fortunate than myself. Rosies reaches out to those most in need, those people who are abandoned, marginalised, socially isolated within our communities. On The Street Volunteers are asked to commit to 4 hours once a month to outreach. Each volunteer is assigned to a team and each team goes out on to the street once a month. The location is always the same so that our patrons, friends on the street, know where we will be and when. The team meets at the branch base at the designated time and over the course of an hour they catch up with each other to develop the sense of community and family that we take on to the street. They prepare the van, share relevant information and review recent street reports so they know what has been happening on the street. The Team Leader conducts a simple reflection with the team and leads the Rosies prayer, then the team travels to the outreach location together in the Rosies van. The team spends two hours on the street sharing friendship with a simple drink and a bite to eat. After two hours the outreach is concluded and the team travels back to base together in the Rosies van. The team, unpacks, cleans up and has a debrief before leaving for home. |

Sundale - Creating Communities
Sep 24, 2019
As a not for profit community organisaton, we manage our finances carefully so that any surplus is reinvested into better care, better facilities, better lifestyle options and more training for our people to better care for our elders and customers - present and future. Sundale have been caring for our elders for over five decades. Along the way we’ve developed the wisdom, infrastructure, practices and financial security to offer a wide range of lifestyles, services and care for all members of the community. Sundale was born and nurtured on the Sunshine Coast. The selfless enthusiasm of the Nambour Apex Club, supported by other service clubs and the generosity of our community, raised the funds to lay the first brick in our first care centre in 1963. Over five decades Sundale has matured to be respected, relied upon and valued by the community - just like the elders and others we serve. Based on the Sunshine Coast, and with all operational decisions made locally by the local team, Sundale is able to adapt to general and specifically directed needs to better serve our communities. |
