Sundale - Creating Communities
Sep 24, 2019
As a not for profit community organisaton, we manage our finances carefully so that any surplus is reinvested into better care, better facilities, better lifestyle options and more training for our people to better care for our elders and customers - present and future. Sundale have been caring for our elders for over five decades. Along the way we’ve developed the wisdom, infrastructure, practices and financial security to offer a wide range of lifestyles, services and care for all members of the community. Sundale was born and nurtured on the Sunshine Coast. The selfless enthusiasm of the Nambour Apex Club, supported by other service clubs and the generosity of our community, raised the funds to lay the first brick in our first care centre in 1963. Over five decades Sundale has matured to be respected, relied upon and valued by the community - just like the elders and others we serve. Based on the Sunshine Coast, and with all operational decisions made locally by the local team, Sundale is able to adapt to general and specifically directed needs to better serve our communities. |

Grab Life By The Balls
Oct 08, 2019
Sam is a local dad, husband, chiropractor and founder of The Grab Life By The Balls movement.
Grab Life By The Balls was created to combat the horrific men’s mental health stats. As the name suggests, rather than waiting for things to go pear shaped Sam felt a proactive, yet laid back, approach was necessary.
Grab Life By The Balls has been running laid back events, such a burger nights and Friday morning bacon and eggs down the beach since November 2016. The emphasis of these events is creating a movement centred around mateship, a simple yet effective way to combat the stats around men’s mental health.

Umoja Orphanage Kenya
Dec 10, 2019
Cathy Booth’s passion for helping to give vulnerable children a second chance at life is inspirational. As a school teacher, mother of four, and grandmother of four, Cathy has always been an advocate for helping children to reach their full potential. After a short visit to Kenya in 2010, Cathy returned to Australia determined to start her own charity to combat child abandonment and orphaned children. In 2016, after five long years of fundraising in Australia and creating the required infrastructure in Kenya, her dream of opening a self-sustainable children’s village in Ukunda, Kenya was finally a reality. Hear the difficulties of running the Umoja Project in a poverty stricken area of Kenya . Cathy will speak about how Umoja is so much more than just a children’s home. Umoja is a project which also helps the community, and how the support of Rotary and Rotarian Volunteers, has helped her team truly achieve the extraordinary while Cathy has continued to work full time up until the end of June this year in her profession, whilst overseeing the project from Australia. Cathy returns to Kenya twice a year to take Rotary Volunteers and other volunteers to the project. We hope that you will see how determination, persistence, and passion have made this project what it is today. Cathy hopes she can be your inspiration. |

Feb 19, 2020 - Feb 20, 2020
The ability of Rotary clubs to work together for the good of the community can never be underestimated. When local optometrist and Hervey Bay City Rotary club member Richard Watt and his wife Gwen were watching the bushfire disaster unfold, they desperately wanted to help the affected communities.
They started a campaign, ‘Hervey Bay adopting fire affected families’ to raise funds, initially to provide some immediate relief. Local residents responded generously to the appeal and one local resident, named Don, decided that he would donate a caravan that was not being used.
Hearing about the plight of the small town of Lake Conjola in NSW where 89 homes had been lost and up to another 50 were considered uninhabitable, it was decided that this would be an ideal location for the caravan.
Richards’ wife Gwen had the answer. With the help of Rotary Clubs along the route 7 clubs would be involved in a ‘baton’ relay taking the caravan over 9 legs. A coordinated schedule was then set up with members committing to a day and time. Sounds simple enough but required detailed planning and a lot of phone calls.
Local Sunshine coast residents Kath and Ian Aspinall of Caloundra Rotary and Caloundra Pacific Rotary Club are typical of the Rotarians that have offered their time.
Other clubs involved include Ballina- on- Richmond, Taree North, Caringbah and Milton – Ulludulla.
The Rotary club of Milton Ulludulla, which will undertake the last leg, are coordinating activities locally, working in conjunction with a small group, the Conjola Recovery Team. Together, they are providing help where it is required and the caravan would be intended as temporary accommodation to be passed on to other families when needed.
Stephen Hladio President of the Milton-Ulludulla club said:
Fellow club Rotarian, Kirrily Dowling manager of the local Burrill Lake Caravan Park offered a permanent home at the park - a wonderful peaceful location for recuperation.
The Goldstream caravan, a pop up camper type, is in excellent condition barely nine years old and at over six metres long will provide comfortable six berth accommodation for a needy family.
Hervey Bay City Rotary will kick off the first leg on 19 February with the final leg Sunday 23 February from Caringbah Sunday markets to Lake Conjola a total distance from Hervey Bay of 1700km.
Look out for the Rotary banners adorning the caravan and show your support by visiting ‘Rotary Caravan of Hope’ Facebook page www.facebook.com/rotaryscaravanofhope. Follow the event ‘Caravan Hervey Bay to Lake Condola,’ a link for donations will be set up.

For more than 110 years, Rotary members have been addressing challenges around the world.
Grassroots at the core, Rotary links 1.2 million members to form an organization of international scope. It started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and give back to their communities.
Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of its members.

Mar 03, 2020
Jeanne was born and educated in Adelaide completing a Bachelor of Business in 1993. She was a Police Officer for 11 years, ending her career as a Detective Brevet Sergeant with the Anti-Corruption Branch. She completed Certificate 4’s in Building and Residential Drafting, worked within the Residential Building Industry, designing, estimating and coordinating the construction of homes. Jeanne obtained her South Australian Builders Licence. The thought of another winter in Adelaide helped Jeanne decide it was time to find somewhere else to live. After driving most of east coast of Australia in 2012, Jeanne stopped in Townsville for 4 years where she worked in new home and land sales. There she obtained her residential design licence and had her Builders’ Licence transferred to Queensland. Jeanne decided to take another road trip and collected her father in Adelaide to accompany her across the Nullarbor. In the middle of 2017 Jeanne’s aunt and cousins needed a hand in Brisbane, so her drive around Australia was cut short as she flew there from Broome. By now she had decided where she wanted to live and the type of business she wanted to run. So in 2017 she moved to the Sunshine Coast, the best place to live, and started Colomba Property. The business has had a slight change in focus and is now assisting seniors clear out their homes when they move into Aged Care Facilities or families dealing with a deceased estate.
