What does ROTARY mean to me as an individual?

  • Raising awareness
  • Overall fellowship
  • Talking the Talk
  • Always be on Hand
  • Relationships in Service
  • Youth association
Being a Rotarian has shown me more awareness of how much you can be involved with the Community.    It can be a small amount or it can be fulltime depending on your availability depending on your family and your work commitment.  It doesn’t matter how much but what you are able to do.

I have come in contact with some amazing people and made long term worldwide friendships since I have been involved with Rotary.   Fellowship, friendship and making a mark in the Community through Rotary has been an inspiring experience.

Don’t forget our Teddy Bears Picnic on Sunday at Oaks Oasis Resort and any amount of help will be appreciated.   Our Charity Partner is STEMM and they need all the help they can get.

I would also like to touch on the cost of our Breakfast meetings....
We have looked into a few possibilities due to sometimes the unavailability of Oaks.   In past weeks we have had as little as nine people availing of breakfast at Oaks and this has not been viable for Oaks to open at 6.30am for us and only have this many for the meal.   They need to have at least 16 having breakfast to make it viable.

Oaks look after us very well with the storing of some of our regalia and the use of the big screen when we have guest speakers.   In the past we would have had to pay for this.

The same goes for Pelican Waters Golf Club they need at least 20 people to pay for breakfast otherwise it is not viable for them.   For the past 2 meetings the club has had to pay the extra.

Deb and I have spoken to other facilities regarding costs and we are on a winner with Oaks.  The costs were between $19 to $25.

The Salvation Army has offered to help out with a continental breakfast on occasions when Oaks is not available and we will avail of this offer.

The Board is aware that some members - due to medication or allergies they do not partake of breakfast - and pay $5.   As I have stated, if we do not have at least 16 paying for breakfast Oaks will have to charge us more, or pay for the hire of the room which is $240 per week.   We are getting a good deal $16 per member.

Therefore we as a board have decided that to cover costs that each meeting will cost $20 per member.

If any member feels this is an unfair advantage can you please speak to myself or a member of the Board.   I do not think that it is an unfair advantage as most club meetings can charge up to $25 whether they eat or not.

Hope to see as many of you on Sunday at Oaks.

Enjoy our beautiful weather.
