It seems that these past weeks are literally flying by and over the next few weeks the Club will be involved in a few fundraising ventures.

On Thursday 25 October some of our members will be visiting Norm Bourguignon at Opal Retirement at Kawana for afternoon tea and to present him with an Honorary Certificate for his years of Service to our Club.  Then some of us will be congregating at Gordon’s home to staple up the Melbourne Cup Trifecta tickets which we will be selling from next week until Melbourne Cup Eve.  We will also be asking each and every member to take home a pack to sell to friends and family.  This makes it a lot easier and a little less for those volunteers to sell in Caloundra and Golden Beach.  So please take as many as you can on Tuesday morning at our meeting.

This coming Tuesday morning …
… our guest speaker is Jacqui Deane from STEMM and also visiting will be Lyn Roberts and his lovely partner Lexley, who are Jacqui’s parents.  It’s been a little while since Lyn has been able to attend a meeting so I hope that as many of you will be able to attend this meeting to catch up with Lyn and Lex and also to listen to Jacqui give us an update on STEMM.

Tuesday 6 November is Melbourne Cup Day and I hope that you will endeavour to attend our Melbourne Cup Luncheon which is being held at Pelican Waters Tavern.  This is probably our second biggest fundraiser for the year so please gather a group together and attend this event.  The Club will in turn donate $10 per ticket to Drought Relief.

Thank you to all who volunteered for this month’s Bunnings BBQ.  It was quite a warm day and I hear from Keith that it was a busy day but very enjoyable.

Rotary Foundation – It’s inception

Turn back the clock to 1917. At the Rotary Convention in Atlanta, Georgia – Rotary President Arch Klumph proposes the establishment of an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world”.  The endowment receives it’s first donation $26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri.  To date the Foundation has partnered with many organisations to raise funds for the good of humanity.  These partnerships have made life changing effects to people in every corner of the globe and we need to keep these partnerships going so that those who need help are given that opportunity.

To you fellow Rotarians have the most wonderful week and thank you for involving yourselves in this wonderful organisation called Rotary.
