Fortunately our Master of Ceremonies/ Roster King was able to Chair the meeting as our rostered Chair, Genta was whisked away without notice to Perth.  Not sure where our rostered Speaker & Official Photographer was.  That reminds us to remind you to check the roster for your duties and to arrange a replacement if for any reason you will not be attending.  A new roster commencing 1 July is being drawn up as we speak!

So Ian Belcher welcomed us on a very cold winter's morning as well as extending an official welcome to our three visitors - Assistant Governor Wendy, interested volunteer Ana Carolina, and Deborah's house guest from Thailand.

Past Governor, Alan Still proposed our International Toast to the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch, in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Arnaldo Mendes gave us his version of Three Minutes on Me and it was with some reluctance that he beat a retreat to his seat before the Sergeant rose.

President Elect Bernie, standing in for President Peter who is still labouring away in northern climes, had several announcements:

  • The Rotary and the University of the Sunshine Coast Community Fund - RUSCCF - had sent a 'thank you' letter for our participation and contributions towards the $14,900 raised on the recent Scholarship Presentation night
  • Australian Rotary Health is open to donations

  • Presidents' Changeover on 7 July - please register here - note there is no meeting on 10 July
  • Volunteers are being sought for Queensland Air Museum's Open Cockpit weekend - details here and here
Next week's meeting will be another Open Forum to discuss the 2018-19 budget and membership dues.  It is hoped there will be some time to also discuss the proposed changes to our meeting structure introduced last week.

Helen Fox introduced our Guest Speaker, Murray Power who started the Caloundra Film Festival in 2013.  With the support of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Screen Queensland and other partners it has grown significantly.  It runs over multiple locations over a 10 day period and includes a Features Programme, a Pop-up Cinema, a Student Showcase and this year a large open air opening night screening.  He told a story of success out of an idea that at first was not seen to be possible in Caloundra.
