The recent rain in Longreach is not drought breaking

I am exited to report 137mm from last Monday arvo until Friday. Tremendous rain and because it was such a massive system pretty well everyone on our patch got something. Most got more than us in Longreach but some didn’t fare as well as us.

Not drought breaking rain but another morale boost and people.

The Rotary Club of Longreach would like to thank all those clubs in the district that have donated monies to the Longreach Drought Appeal was launched in May 2015.

The Past Secretary of the Rotary Club of Longreach has sent the following message concerning the arrival at last of good rains earlier this month:

"(I am) Exited to report 137mm from last Monday arvo until Friday. Tremendous rain and because it was such a massive system pretty well everyone on our patch got something. Most got more than us in Longreach but some didn’t fare as well as us.

Not drought breaking rain but another morale boost and people are now daring to hope that a ‘normal ‘ wet will arrive at the end of the year and we can say the drought is broken. I remain bemused by the media’s desperation to call anything that falls from the sky as drought breaking rain. We know that sufficient rain falling at the right time will break the drought and that the drought really doesn’t end until years later when people are finally able to get themselves back into the position they held before the drought began".

Let us hope the monsoon rains do arrive next season so this 6 year agony for the region can be put to rest although it will take about 3 years for the West to get back to what it was . If clubs would like to stay in touch with RC Longreach the contact is Damian Arthur rlart0@bigpon.com . Damian is Past Secretary and the Longreach Region Representative on the North Queensland Drought Committee. They  recently distributed over $1 million to those in need under the RAWCS/NFF/ Chanel 9 fund in accordance with the guidelines and in cooperation with other local organisations and I believe that this demonstrates Rotary making a difference in an inspirational way. My congratulations goes out to the club on their efforts since 2013.

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Longreach I would like to thank all those clubs in the district that have donated monies since the Longreach Drought Appeal was launched in May 2015.
