Alan McGaw's showed his passion for not only providing effective shelter for disaster victims, but also giving them hope for the future.

He spoke about the effectiveness of ShelterBox, but also noted that its longer term usefulness was limited.

He noted that the publicity "life" of a disaster only lasted until the next one.

There is always a chance for hope to spring from adversity, like a flower growing from a brick wall.

During a long association with disaster relief, Alan was able to provide insights into the problems of dealing with governments and other institutions.

The shelters provided by Maddel appear to be well thought out designs able to respond to social and environmental challenges.

Alan is hopeful that, with Rotary's support, his systems will become the standard for disaster relief.
Gordon and Bernie thanked Alan for his talk

Sgt Merv apparently ran out of lies and had to resort to the truth for a change, and after some disparaging comments from the Chair last week, Gordon came back with his best imported light absorbing headwear

Of course, when you get the camera out, there is always someone else wanting to grab the limelight (or in this case, maybe "reflected" limelight)
