Mark Ward, Irish and Darryl Laing
Shephards Arms Children's Home (SACH) & Agricultural Fish Farm, Bohol, Philippines.

Rotary Club of Caloundra members Mark, Irish and Darryl told us all about their recent visit to the orphanage and fish farm. Mark commented: "what did impress me were the efforts to be self-sufficient through SACH's agricultural activities and I think that is highly worth supporting". Reflecting the desire to be self-sufficient, SACH plans to grow fish from fingerlings in a purpose built fish farm to assist the children’s home become self-sufficient in providing a supply of food.  A revenue stream from selling surplus fish is anticipated.

Despite increasingly desperate attempts, he still can't give that wine away
Cross fine on Merv for not clicking the "more" button on last week's "Our Last Meeting"
He would have found a few fines there.  Wonder if he will ever get to read this?
We will know if he turns up next week with a better bottle of wine

This is Mark's ghostly hand showing us where Bohol is
And a close up with my camera settings improved
If he's not careful, Mark may wipe it off the map completely
Despite spending most of their time waiting for product in the shops, the project was very successful.

The orphanage strives to be self sustaining.  The children are encouraged to achieve high academic results and this approach is paying dividends.
The also help out with the farm and help each other.
The gifts from RC Caloundra were warmly received
and look!  they are learning things from us already
They were treated like royalty by the local Rotary Club
and the children
A current image of healthy looking fish in the pond confirms the success of the project.
They are hopeful that some Club members will visit in the future.
The next project will need a few Clubs as a medical centre at the orphanage is needed
In addition to the childrens' needs, there is no local medical centre.
RC Baldwin are looking at $15K for the building but another $10K is needed for equipment
Maybe we could combine with another Club and apply for two District Grants
Thanks for a telling us about this great project.
