Roger Todd was not only our Chair this morning, but he was also our Guest Speaker on Caloundra's History & Heritage.

He is a local architect who believes that the conservation of our heritage adds to our emotional wellbeing and promotes strong communities.  In addition to 'general practice' architecture, his (sic) professional work also involves conservation of heritage places.
Roger found that he was overloaded with being Chair and Guest Speaker, so for once we had a photographer who get catch Roger in action as well as provide this record of the meeting!

So Roger opened the meeting in the usual way except he asked if someone was going to propose the loyal toast and was quickly informed he could do that!  Gerry proposed the International Toast to the Rotary Club of Paris (and hopefully we get all the details soon for inclusion in this week's Reel).

President Bernie - having earlier sent her apologies due to her mother taking ill - took to the floor to cover a number of matters including Conference and the need for old encyclopaedias, the Golf Day summary (net funds raised over $12,000).

Bernie also informed us that Megyn lost her mother during the week.  Condolences and flowers have been sent, and best wishes were given to Megyn.

Gordon has also had major surgery.

Roger was at a loss immediately prior to the meeting as he had 60 slides to show but there was no projector or laptop to present them on!  (Had we known that a little earlier, a quick dash would have produced alternative equipment …).  They probably would have been interesting because Roger had automated them, but a slide night at his place was promised.

Fortunately, some notes were in his possession and Roger proceeded to talk to us about stones, detection, gold, ships, war, residential and other development, fish & ... lighthouses.

Darryl was soon on his feet to remind us about the Anzac Day Remembrance at Centaur Park on Tuesday 23 April and suggested we visit it beforehand.  For those that don't know the history of Rotary and Centaur Park, we have included a couple of images below.  Roger says that the wreck lies too deep to dive on!

Les reminded us of the important meeting of members being held on Tuesday 16 April.  He was going to say that members should raise any issues prior to the meeting but Roger got in first and asked what were the changes!!  Well over 30 years has gone by since the current constitution was adopted and there has been a lot of change within Rotary in that time ... too many to mention then or here.  However, in this week's bulletin (The Reel) there will be some documentation which may assist.  Look out for it!

Sergeant Merv (pictured here looking smug, awaiting his turn), had more than the two seconds he got on 7 local news talking about the loggerheads that he has been looking after for 14 years).  He enlisted the help of Corporal Noel as Noel did not want another bottle of wine, before the meeting disintegrated and those who were not already at RYDA, went to RYDA.
