Dr John Arvier OAM is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with a special interest in maxillofacial trauma. He has more than 28 years experience in specialist oral and maxillofacial surgery practice, with a private practice at the Wesley with branches in the suburbs as well as in Mackay and Rockhampton.


He will be speaking to us on 29 May on 'The Challenges and Rewards of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery'.

Dr Arvier is also a Visiting Medical Officer at Ipswich Hospital and a consultant member of the Queensland Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program. He completed his dental undergraduate training at the University of Queensland, with subsequent post-graduate surgical training at King’s College Hospital in London, and Royal Adelaide Hospital & Adelaide University.

He is a former chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee of ANZAOMS, the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and has made 30 separate visits to Bangladesh, Cambodia and New Guinea, where ANZAOMS has established formal training programs in his specialty. Dr Arvier has treated many patients brought to The Wesley Hospital for surgical procedures not available in their home countries.

Dr Arvier has achieved a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Qld), Master of Science (Oral Surgery) (London), and MDS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) (Adel), and is a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International (FADI), and the International College of Dentists (FICD). He was awarded an OAM for services to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2006.​
