Papua New Guinea health authorities confirm that the country is experiencing its first polio outbreak in 18 years, after one case of the virus was confirmed in the country's second-largest city.
 
District Governor, John Lane said: "the latest news from Papua New Guinea is not good, WHO has confirmed the first case of Polio since 1996. Not Wild Polio but VACINE Derived. 
 
"The Health Department and WHO will undertake a vaccination and testing program.
 
"We are in contact with the Clubs and will advise of any support or other assistance required shortly.
 
"Please keep our members of the Rotary family and Papua New Guinea in your thoughts and prayers whilst they handle this situation."
