The Yowie

Rachael had three minutes to tell us about herself

Welcome to another week everybody, as we say goodbye to our shortest month, February and begin the next.

Our Club is currently in "busy-mode".  It's a time of great productivity and it's so encouraging to see so many of our enthusiastic members involving themselves in the Service aspect of Rotary.

Our Membership Director, Chris Rees is busy working on methods to retain our strong membership base and developing new and exciting ways of attracting new Members.

In this last week alone, members have been involved in multiple Social and Service events.  Our Facts 'n Figures man, Les has provided some statistics outlining the level of activity of our Members in this period.

Our Social Calendar is having a profound effect on the connectivity between members.  We are able to offer support and friendship to each other when needed.  There is nothing better than spending time together in a relaxed social environment.  This is how we get to know each other.  Merely attending Breakfast Meetings won't enable this to happen.

As friendships evolve, the next step is working together to Serve our Community.  Serving our Community with our friends, is an enjoyable and rewarding experience.  To know that you are giving something back and helping out a particular project, whether it be local, national or global, is very empowering.

This week saw another successful RYDA Program at Corbould Park.  The Program is having its 10th Anniversary Dinner on Friday 23 March.  A huge thank you to those from our Club who have been a part of this very popular Program since its inception.

Our St Patrick's Day Golf Day is getting very close (Friday 16 March).   Make sure you register for a Team and get involved to help out our Golf Committee.  Sponsorship opportunities for holes are still available.  For further information, please contact Gordon or see this page.

The annual ROMAC Trivia night, organised once again by CalPac, was on Thursday night (1 March).

Come along for a Night at the Races this Friday night, 2 March.  It will be a relaxed, informal gathering.  Sue is reserving a couple of tables.  You are welcome to bring your own food, drinks are available at the Bar.

Another successful Bunnings BBQ was held on Wednesday 28 Feb. Our resident Master Chef, Keith, celebrated his birthday, cooking himself a well earned Birthday Steak.  I hope you had a wonderful birthday, Keith. You are an inspiration to us all and your enthusiasm at the BBQ's is unequalled.

Our President Elect, Bernie and her husband, Ron will be representing our Club by volunteering at RAWCS DIK (Rotary Australia World Community Service's Donations in Kind) facility this weekend.  Thank you both for the time you invest in Rotary.

A reminder for those wishing to attend the District Conference at Maroochy RSL 20-22 April.  Online Invitations have been emailed to all Members.  Remember, your Conference Fees have already been paid in your yearly dues.  The only costs are for meals.  A strong representation from our Club is anticipated.

Don't forget, next week our Breakfast Meeting moves to the offices of the Salvation Army, located on Sugarbag Rd.  I look forward to seeing you there, in the meantime, have a great weekend.

Bio Toilets

Bhubaneswar is the capital of the Indian state of Odisha.  It is the largest city in Odisha and is a centre of economic and religious importance in Eastern India.  Bhubaneswar is often referred to as a "Temple City of India".

But ..... there are 338 unauthorised slums in Bhubaneswar  - many households do not have toilets and a few who have sanitary toilets have no drainage, water and maintenance facilities!!

District Conference

Our District's Annual Conference will be held on the weekend of 21-22 April.  The venue is Maroochy RSL and a reminder that the cost of your attendance is included in your yearly fees.  The only charge is for meals, at a subsidised rate.  I'm sure a lot of our members intend going to the Conference.  It's a great opportunity to learn more about Rotary from the exciting Speaker line up, a chance to network, meet other Rotarians, especially those from the Solomon Islands and PNG and get to know your own Club Members on a more personal level.
