Qld Air Museum

Still feeling the effects of our St Patrick's Day Golf Day, 'Irish Anne' was at the desk, greeting us and fleecing us as we arrived.

Our resident legal egal, Trevor (obviously all the Cruise boats are in port for maintenance), was present to take the position of Chair.  Trevor is a little absent minded quite often and confuses Rotary with his work, addressing the crowd as though it was a courtroom.  Business and pleasure don't mix, Trev.

It was nice to welcome Helen back from her latest trekking expedition in Queen Charlotte's Pass NZ, click here to have a look at the beautiful scenery found in this part of the world.

The big news we were all waiting for was the Golf Day report from Gorgeous Gordon.  The news was all good.  Gordon was very happy with the day, thanking sponsors, the Golf Day Committee, players, volunteers, Pelican Waters Golf Club and anyone else who was involved.  It was a beautiful day weather-wise and a lot of money has been raised for the SunnyKids Charity and Rotary.  Thank you to all those involved in helping to transform Gordon from being Grumpy to Gorgeous.  See the report and the photos/video here

Our Guest Speaker - introduced and thanked by Monsieur Lombard - Geoff Smith from the Queensland Air Museum, at Caloundra Airport, gave us an insight into the fantastic work that he and another 100 volunteers do at the museum.  I'm sure our club might be having a Vocational Visit in the near future.  We look forward to that.

Lyn Roberts was able to make it along this week.  For those of you who are unaware, Lyn's wife, Lexley has been experiencing some cardiac issues that have landed her in hospital.  Lyn and Lex, on behalf of the Club, we wish Lex a speedy recovery and Lyn, to let you know that we are all thinking of you both;  please don't hesitate to ask your Rotary friends for help in any way.

Something happened this week that none of us thought possible.  Our man with the amazing memory, PDG Alan Still OAM hesitated as he proposed the International Toast, briefly forgetting the name of the Rotary Club we were to toast.  I'm sure it was a momentary lapse, Alan, but you'll never live it down.  Alan took us to Rotary District 9010, to the Rotary Club of Casablanca.  Click here to check out the Casablanca club.

Ian Belcher provided us with a humorous 3 Minute Segment on "The Life of Ian".  Remember, he is not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy.  It must be all in the DNA, Ian.
Sergeant Deb then proceeded to dig up the dirt on as many as she could.  Poor Deb, no wonder she was looking so short next to Chris M, he'd been to the Podiatrist and had a couple of inches added to the sole of his joggers.  How to grow to 6ft10 from 6ft8 instantaneously.  Deb, you'll just have to get yourself some hi-vis stilettos from where Heidi buys hers.  Try these

The new Rotary Year is fast approaching and our President Elect, Bernie, has been working behind the scenes in preparation.  Bernie called her first meeting with her incoming Board after our Breakfast and outlined what she hopes to achieve in her year.  I know Bernie will do a fantastic job as President and I wish her every success.

NEWS FLASH

I have decided to resign from the position of President Elect for the Year 2018-19, and in discussion with Bernie, we have offered the role to Chris Rees, whom I'm very happy to say, after the initial shock, is excited to take on the role.  This means Chris will be our Club President for the Rotary Year 2019-20.  We congratulate Chris on his pending new position and are confident that he will continue to lead the club in the right direction, following on from his role as Membership Director, where he has immersed himself in all things Rotary and those specific to our club.  Read more about Chris here.

Have a fantastic weekend, everybody.  We have the 10 Year RYDA Celebration on Friday night at the Caloundra Golf Club, and a lot of us are camping at Esk for the weekend.  I look forward to seeing you all again next week.
