President Peter's Musings

Qld Air Museum

Still feeling the effects of our St Patrick's Day Golf Day, 'Irish Anne' was at the desk, greeting us and fleecing us as we arrived.

Our resident legal egal, Trevor (obviously all the Cruise boats are in port for maintenance), was present to take the position of Chair.  Trevor is a little absent minded quite often and confuses Rotary with his work, addressing the crowd as though it was a courtroom.  Business and pleasure don't mix, Trev.

It was nice to welcome Helen back from her latest trekking expedition in Queen Charlotte's Pass NZ, click here to have a look at the beautiful scenery found in this part of the world.

Next Tuesday's Meeting

"Stand Easy!" is a command to soldiers standing at ease that they may relax further easy.

Doesn't quite fit the context of our meeting next Tuesday (27 March) but we - intentionally - do not have a speaker booked.  Nor is it a "Club Assembly".

Come prepared for fellowship while we stand easy for an hour!

Papua New Guinea Earthquake Appeal
To aid the recovery efforts in Papua New Guinea following the loss of life and property due to the Earthquake on 27 February 2018 in the Southern Highlands, our Rotary District 9600 has established an Earthquake Recovery Fund which will accept tax deductible donations.

The Government declared a state of emergency on 2 March for Hela, Southern Highlands, Western and Enga provinces.  According to initial estimates, over 544,000 people are affected across the five most affected provinces.  Over 270,000 people require immediate humanitarian assistance.

PNG is an important part of our Rotary District and needs our support following this disastrous event.  The appeal is open to the public, as well as to clubs and members, to make contributions.

Training for RAWCS Volunteers
Several Rotarians have expressed interest in becoming involved with RAWCS project volunteering so RAWCS is planning a training session to fully inform interested members about this wonderful program.

you are interested in learning more about the opportunities to do volunteer work in developing countries, please contact PDG George Grant (Chair D9600 RAWCS/DIK) by email on georgegrant@iinet.net.au or telephone for a chat on 0408 011 145 to let him know your vocational skills, passions, or areas of interest.  Please note that volunteers pay their own travel expenses and time is allowed for a balanced program which includes fun time for local sight seeing and relaxation.

RAWCS will advise a definite date after it confirms the amount of interest from members.

RAWCS will also have a display at District Conference if you cannot attend it's information session.
