A few words from President Bernie
August is upon us and I look at what is on our Calendar this month.  Another RYDA session which unfortunately I was unable to attend.  I do thank those members who volunteered for the two days.

Deb, Graham and I attended the Caloundra Community Bank talk at the Queensland Air Museum last Tuesday evening.  A very chilly night indeed, however we were given an update on how the financial markets are faring.  It was quite interesting.

Please don’t forget the Bunnings BBQ on Wednesday 22 August and if you can lend a hand even for a couple of hours it will be very helpful.

Our movie night is set for 23 August, the movie “The Book Club” is being shown.  Sounds like a really good movie.  This will be our social get together and the funds raised will be sent to the Rotary Club of Longreach to support DROUGHT RELIEF, so come one, come all.  Invite your friends, invite your family and lets have some food, fellowship and watch a good movie. The invitation has been sent out so please reply as soon as possible. We will need to know numbers for catering and for the size of the theatre.   Book here

August is also focused on the senior sector of our community and with Seniors week at our doorstep, I would ask our senior members to get involved in the Local Community activities.  Keep a lookout for the notices in the Local Caloundra paper and the Sunshine Coast Daily and get out there and have some fun.

I hope you have a wonderful week

Next Tuesday's Meeting
This week's meeting is another Open Forum to discuss matters arising from the last Board meeting and other matters of interest to our members.
Last week's meeting

Judy cheerily opened our meeting, welcoming Kath (Inner Wheel), Ken (Morwell Rotary, Victoria), and about to be new member, Ana.  Arnaldo & Gerry were welcomed back from their travels (during which Gerry succumbed to a disease that he is still recovering from!).

An opportunity just for you
Civic Media are owners of large digital and static format billboards as well as smaller format static billboards in Melbourne, around Australia and specifically in several locations on the Sunshine Coast.

They are after someone who can attend to these small billboards once a year and replace the posters when needed.  The boards may also need a paint touch up, Perspex replacement (if broken) and a general clean.

Would suit a retired person.  Interested?

Your member profile welcomed
We have heard from many of our members in the 'Three Minutes on Me' segment at our meetings, and we are just starting to learn about the vocations of our working members.

So, the editor of our weekly newsletter 'The Reel' would like to feature your Member Profile in The Reel.  In addition to the feature appearing in The Reel, it will make a perfect post for our Facebook page.

The Profile would include snippets of your working life, retirement highlights, the reasons you joined Rotary, and something of your life as a Rotarian in Caloundra and elsewhere.

We encourage you to put pen to paper and contribute to this segment please.

Don't be shy - we want to hear from you?  Just send an email to Les at one of our meetings.

2018 Drought Relief Fund for Australian Farmers
After a seven year drought, it's very clear that our Farmers and their families, the backbone of Australia, are doing it exceptionally tough. The National Farmers' Federation, Channel 9 & Rotary in Australia will work together to raise much needed funds from the very generous Australian public.

The National Farmers' Federation will then be able to access these funds and provide support to approved organisations, helping Farmers through this difficult time.
