President Peter's Musings

Happy New Year everyone,

Our Rotary Christmas recess has finished and we're back into the swing of things.

A fantastic number of Members attended our first Breakfast of the year.  It was also pleasing to see the number of guests present.

Honorary Member, Alf Mueller - who is well known to us all - decided to pay us a visit.  It is always great to see you, Alf.  You must be doing something right in retirement.  Please feel free to come along more often.

Our Guest Speaker for the morning was Jess Keenan (daughter of PP Julianna).  Jess is embarking on a Rotary Exchange to France.  Never far away from Jess is her French Tutor, Christine, who also attended our breakfast.

Christine has been madly teaching Jess all the French she can.  So much so that Jess was able to provide us with a bi-lingual version of her speech.  First was the French version, followed by the English.

Bon voyage, Jess. We wish you well and stay safe.

Merv's better half, Anne dined with us, wanting to hear more from Jess.  While our Northern Territorian Rotarian, Jan, was also in attendance, giving our Gerry a surprise visit.

Mobile Week
Our meeting which normally would have been on Tuesday 23 January has been given wheels enabling all of us to be mobile!

The suggestion is that - rather than turn up at Oaks (where there will be nobody!) - groups of three to four of our members visit other Rotary clubs in our vicinity, take notes (things we would benefit from or should avoid) and report back to our meeting on 30 January.  Helen is coordinating the groups - read on to see which group you are in.

Club benefits from tutoring

Our Rotary Youth Exchange student was in need of French tutoring over the last month or so.  Through one of our members, Christine volunteered to help Jess without any charge.

However, as Julianna wanted to pay something Christine suggested that a donation be made to the club's youth projects.

Jess made the cheque presentation to President Peter at the end of her speech.  We can assure Christine - along with Julianna & Jess - that it will be put to good use!

Merci!

2018-19 RI President Barry Rassin wants Rotary members to Be the Inspiration
Rotary International President-elect Barry Rassin laid out his vision for the future of the organization on Sunday, calling on leaders to work for a sustainable future and to inspire Rotarians and the community at large.

Rassin, a member of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, unveiled the 2018-19 presidential theme, Be the Inspiration, to incoming district governors at Rotary’s International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA. “I want you to inspire in your clubs, your Rotarians, that desire for something greater. The drive to do more, to be more, to create something that will live beyond each of us.”
