Lest we forget, Anzac Day, a special and significant day remembered every year fell today.  I hope those who participated in Remembrance Services and those not able to, were able to pay their respects to representatives of our country, who paid the ultimate sacrifice, so we may live in a peaceful world.

Since the District Conference, I've been thinking about Rotary; what it does and why we choose to be a part of it.  I hope you enjoy the following.

Why do People Join Rotary ?

Have you ever stopped to wonder why you've joined Rotary?  What makes us want to join?  Here are some of the reasons Rotary is so appealing.

1.Friendship Fellowship/ Community - In an increasingly complex world, Rotary provides one of the most basic human needs; the need for friendship and fellowship.

2. Business Development - Everyone needs to network. Rotary consists of a cross-section of business communities, with members coming from all walks of life. We help each other and collectively help others.

3. Personal Growth and Development - membership ensures continuing growth and education in human relations and personal development.

4.Leadership Development - Rotary offers opportunities of leadership. Serving in these positions is an extension to our education, where skills such as learning how to motivate, influence and lead people are gained.

5. Citizenship in the Community - Members of a Rotary Club are generally better community citizens. Often we are the the most active citizens of any community.

6. Continuing Education - Guest Speakers at regular Meetings provide an opportunity to listen and learn about a variety of different topics.

7. Fun - Our Club is fun, we do exciting things together, that create lasting memories.

8. Prestige - Rotary members are prominent people, including executives, managers and professionals from all disciplines. Rotary is the oldest and most prestigious service club in the world.

9. Citizenship in the World - Every member of Rotary wears a "Rotary International " pin. There are very few places in the world that don't have Rotary Clubs. As a Rotarian, you are welcome - even encouraged - to attend any of the many clubs, worldwide. This encourages friendships in both local and global communities.

10. Public Speaking Skills - Often when members first join, they are unaccustomed to public speaking. Rotary develops confidence and skill in public communications and the opportunity to practice and perfect these skills.

I hope you find this list of reasons for joining Rotary, interesting.  Recruiting and maintaining members is always a constant requirement of a successful Rotary Club.  Perhaps you can use some of these tips when talking to friends who may be interested in joining Rotary.

Enjoy your weekend and for those who are helping at the Bunnings double header BBQ, thank you.
