What a beautiful venue we visited this morning.  Upon entering the building, we were greeted with the wide open atrium, overlooking water features and lush green grass.

Members were given the choice of Continental or Hot Plated Breakfast.  I, of course, had the latter, but I had a quick look at the Continental version and was very impressed.
The meeting was held in the Curlew Room of the Hotel.  Our thanks to Bernie for organising and Heidi for suggesting our Vocational Visit.

Alan Still OAM surprised us all this morning by steering away from disaster prone areas with the International Toast being made to three of our sister clubs within our 9600 District.  These being Rabaul in PNG, and Gizo and Honiara in the Solomons.  Thanks again Alan for your wonderful memory and ability to incorporate humour.

PP Anna spoke about the weekend in Toogoolawah.  It was nice to see so many of our Club, including Norm, present at the "Unveiling of the Stag", called Norman.  Our Facebook Page is being used really well to keep other members in touch with Club happenings.  For pictures of the event, go to our Facebook Page.
Chris Milligan told us all about Chris during the 3 Minutes on Me segment.  Once again, we all discovered the interesting and varying personalities which make up our Club.  Born in NZ, Chris has lived in many different areas of the world, following his passion to work in the field of Marine Biology and associated Project Management.  Chris joined Rotary in 2014 upon retiring, after a "fortunate and Interesting life".  Chris, we are fortunate to have you as a valued member.

James, our Community Services Director, since retiring from the Salvo's, has never been so busy with the Salvo's.  As a result, he is looking for someone to be the ORGANISER for the Bunnings BBQ on 25 October.  Please contact James if you would like this honour bestowed upon you.

Richard, the Food and Beverage Manager of the Sebel, spoke to us about how he and his wife are letting out the best kept secret in Caloundra.  This being that we have a "world class" Hotel Resort at Pelican Waters.  To enable this to happen, he has listened to the people and made changes to dining times at the Restaurant and provided a lot more choice for customers.  All the rooms, despite the problems associated with strata title and individual ownership, are now all furnished with modern decor.

Many other exciting things are happening at the Sebel and we wish them well in their endeavours.

President Peter, began his report by reflecting for a moment, following the overnight atrocity in Las Vegas.  We are all dumbfounded why someone would perform such a heinous crime.  Our hearts go out to families of those that lost their lives and those injured.  Without being political, surely some form of gun control would have to bring about an improvement to the shocking statistics associated with shooting massacres in the US ??

Thinking about my report for this week, I began to ponder about the recent activities of our Club.  It dawned on me that we are incorporating a LOT of variety into what we do.

Examples of this include, End of Month Socials, Vocational Visits, Camping Safari's, Toogoolawah Weekend, Trifecta Ticket Tethering.  All of these events have been captured on our Social Media Platform and incorporated into our Newsletter, "The Reel", and onto our website - enabling all members to keep abreast of happenings, ensuring the sense of belonging remains.

This led me to extoll the virtues of Variety and my speech this week is entitled,

How to Spice Up Your Life Through Variety     I hope you enjoy it.  Read it here!

Until next week. Stay safe and enjoy the wet stuff.
