Do we accept blankets and clothing as donations?
Answer
No. The reason is because we need to make sure all our aid is uniform and the same for - approved and cleared by customs. We are required to provide a certificate of origin for customs – where is it from, what fibres included, and are they the right ones.
We also ensure that all our aid is exactly the same for equity issues for families receiving the aid. The difference between a heavy blanket and a lightweight blanket could potentially cause unrest, violence and rioting in the communities we provide aid to so to avoid this, we ask our generous donors to donate money so that we can buy the same aid for all our families to receive.

How are ShelterBox aid items selected?
Answer
Our monitoring and evaluation team look at what we have delivered, where it can be improved, what families want. We then go out to our suppliers to see if they can provide this cost effectively, in the numbers and in the speed needed. We also have our horizons team look at what aid will be needed in the future.
