Gizo is the capital of the Western Province and is the second largest town in the Solomon Islands and is relatively developed compared to other settlements in the general area.  Gizo is situated on Ghizo Island approximately 380 kilometres west-northwest of the capital of the Solomon Islands, Honiara.

The Rotary Club of Gizo was responsible for day-to-day liaising with officials of the Departments of Health and Education and with the leaders of the various communities where work will be conducted.  They ensured that any work required to be completed before the project team arrives was carried out.  The club also was responsible for organising accommodation and transport for the volunteers and for ordering supplies.
