If you shop locally, a surprising amount of money remains circulating in the local economy compared to a minimal amount if you don’t. When profits stay local, community wealth increases, and that’s good for everyone.
Good afternoon,

As we rapidly head toward Christmas it’s time for my annual email to the community encouraging Fisher residents to support local businesses and shop locally!
2024 has been tough for so many. This is the longest household recession on record and Australia is experiencing the biggest collapse in living standards in 50 years, and as much as I could go on about this, I won’t. I just want to highlight why it is so important that each and every one of us realises that it can be the small steps that makes a real difference to our community and to our country.
Here are some great reasons to support local businesses:
  • If you shop locally, a surprising amount of money remains circulating in the local economy compared to a minimal amount if you don’t. When profits stay local, community wealth increases, and that’s good for everyone.
  • Supporting local businesses means they are less susceptible to national downturns, more likely to stay open and more likely to increase employment opportunities.
  • Locally made products are often hand made with love and dedication, and this adds a distinct touch to the unique character of our community.
  • Local businesses support non profits, with collective contributions often far surpassing large business donations.
  • Local business owners genuinely love their community – they want to see it and everyone in it succeed, thrive and prosper.
  • Shopping locally gives residents the opportunity to get out in the community and discover what’s out there – often finding time to grab coffee or a meal, further boosting our local economy.
  • Local shoppers can experience the overwhelmingly friendly customer service that we are lucky to boast is an everyday part of life on the Sunshine Coast.
  • Reduce your environmental footprint – less transportation, less packaging.
I also want to give a shout out to all of our local business owners and their staff. It’s been a particularly hard year and many have been stretched to their limits.
Anyone who has owned their own business knows it’s a tough gig. The hours are long, the pressure is sustained and sometimes the steps backward seem more than the steps forward. But overwhelmingly I find in my travels around Fisher that business owners and their employees are passionate, resilient, stoic and utterly committed to making our community the best it can be.
This Christmas, let’s all put Fisher First, and shop locally.
I will also take this time to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a very happy, healthy and meaningful 2025!
Thank you for your continued support, and as I say every year, together we can make a difference.

Kind regards,

Andrew
