For our Vocational Visit, we were hosted by the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce at their office in Bulcock Street.  The club is a member of the Chamber so it was an opportunity for all our members to learn about the services provided.
Vocational Service Director doubled as breakfast delivery courier, so President Bernie officiated for most of the meeting.  She welcomed the Chamber's Executive Officer,  Olivia Sainsbury and Event & Client Services Co-ordinator, Gabby West as well as Pip Fawcett from Bendigo Bank.

Various announcements followed:

  • Deb & Judy are attending the Bunnings BBQ induction
  • The debate with Calpac has been cancelled due to lack of interest/debaters on our part.  Our usual meeting will now be held on Tuesday 14 August.
  • Bernie is learning about the Container Refund Scheme
  • ROMAC has sent a receipt
  • National Youth Science Forum applications are open
  • A Movie Night is being held on 23 August for a fundraiser; the theatre has been made available free of charge.
  • The club is maintaining a stall at the Japanese Festival
  • Lyn Roberts is now at home under palliative care
  • Plans for the Teddy Bears' Picnic on 9 September are well underway
  • Mark reminded us of the bag packing planned for our next meeting; Darryl and he will be taking the bags to the children at the orphanage where the fish farming project is being built.  More details here
  • Roger thanked the tree planters and parking attendants
  • Neville and Helen attended the NYSF applicants interviews
  • Pam encouraged us to include our Rotary Youth Exchange Student, Chloe in appropriate family activities and outings - contact Pam or Julianna.
Olivia introduced us to the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce which has over 500 members and is one of the largest regional chambers; it is one of 12 chambers on the Sunshine Coast.

It organises three market events - the latest of which is the Chilli Festival which is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors this year, its second year.

Caloundra Tourism is an important part of the Chamber's activities.  It is assisting in training frontline staff in various establishments to better represent the region.

Trevor was invited to tell us about his tax collection activities - apparently he needs to collect various sums from buyers and vendors when acting as their conveyancer.  He does not debate the issues just does his job!

Finally Merv found some indiscretions to tell us about and closed an informative meeting.
