'The Epic of Gilgamesh', an ancient Mesopotamian poem, is the oldest surviving work of literature, written about 2000 BCE. The story is about King Gilgamesh of Uruk** who reigned around 2700 BCE and recounts his adventures in his search for immortality.
I don't know whether King Gilgamesh ever found immortality (I think it ended up in a jar beside Trump's bed), but it looks like he probably had some good nights out!
