The holiday weekend and school holidays took their toll on the number at our meeting on 2 October when our newest member, Kath Aspinall was welcomed to the club and formally inducted.  See her story here

We also welcomed James back from his flying visit to New York, as well as Arnaldo.
Our guest speaker was John Malloy from the Alexandra Headland Rotary Club presenting on the WorkLife Program helping to transition young and older people to work.

The Alexandra Headland club offers students a transitioning to work a program on how to succeed and to be happy at Work. This is available in coffee-table book form or by presentations from the members by arrangement.

The club strongly believes that the youth and schools, universities of today will benefit from the practical support and mentorship of employers and employees.  If you are interested in organising a course for your local school, please contact the club at RCAHsecretary@gmail.com.

PDG Alan Still delivered his last 'International' Toast to the Rotary Club of Düsseldorf, Germany in Rotary District 1870 - it is one of 6 clubs in Düsseldorf.  The editor is not sure when this 'tradition' of our club started but Alan feels it is time for a change - but his eyesight and the small print on the rotary.org website are certainly contributing factors.  We look forward to Alan proposing the next toast to an Australian Rotary club before this month is out!

President Bernie's announcements included our Barefoot Bowls for Australian Rotary Health's Hat Day - have you registered to attend? - and the movie nights being arranged by Mooloolaba & Buderim Rotary clubs to see 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.  The Board is meeting next Monday and 12 October marks the club's 64th Anniversary of its Charter.

We are still looking for one or two extra volunteers to assist at our RYDA Road Safety Education days - register at the links here.

Next week's meeting is another Open Forum at which our various committees will have a chance to meet and discuss their portfolios.

Acting Sergeant, Corporal Ian took to the floor with alacrity to regale us with tales true and sometimes sad.  The sad news was Alan & Win's loss of their dog - Alan will miss walking the dog but promises he will still be walking for his daily exercise.  The good news was that Sergeant Merv returns next week.  That is not to say that the Corporal's return to civvy street is good news!  Ian was a great choice to stand-in and amuse us all.
