President Elect James is excited for us all to embrace this theme:
It's up to me!

Our Club Assembly

Club assemblies offer an opportunity to exchange ideas and share information about issues that are important to our members. Most clubs hold four to six assemblies a year.

All members are encouraged to attend, especially new members.  This assembly attracted 18 or about 55% of our members,

James reminded us of one of  Rotary's Guiding Principles:

The Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
Highlighting two aspects - Service & Recognition - James asked us to ponder the question:  Why are you in Rotary?

Membership will be a focus in 2020-21

Additional membership questions were raised but not discussed in any detail.

The assembly went on to consider:
  • Our meeting format and frequency of meetings - the consensus was clearly not to change, but to schedule a report from the Board immediately after each Board meeting
  • Attendance requirements - it appears that it is not well known that:
    • members do not need to attend every meeting
      • the club's Rules state that a member should attend, or make up, ten regular meetings and participate in one service activity each half year but should not miss six regular meetings
    • members are however asked to demonstrate their engagement in the club's activities by attending two regular meetings a month, by participating at Board level and in standing committees, contributing knowledge, skills and time to servicing the needs of the club and the community; and by participating in at least one service activity/event each quarter.
    • members may apply for leave of absence
  • The size of the Board - referred back to the Board to bring a recommendation back to members
  • New Projects - the need for an iconic 'hands on' community project

Visitors

Simon Jago was welcomed back along with prospective members Rachael (Rae) Ellerman, Derek Norquay (a past Rotarian) and another past Rotarian, Ellie (?) from Cotton Tree
