The International Toast went to RC Cebu, on one of the 7641 islands of the Philippines
The Rotary Club of Cebu, founded in 1933, is the second oldest Rotary Club in Asia, after the Rotary Club of Manila

Thought for the day "We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give"
Deborah introduced John Moore, who was dressed in a traditional Afghan costume to reflect on his 23 years in the Middle East and South Asia.
His American accent has softened over 18 years due to the influence of his partner, a local girl from the Australian Army
Both have been engaged in humanitarian work in Afghanistan

John went to the Virginia Military Institute (whose Wikipedia page makes interesting reading)
VMI cadets and alumni played instrumental roles in the American Civil War.
He did his Masters in Boston and was in New York during 9/11
He is currently working for ExxonMobil in Papua New Guinea

John is 50, they live at Shelly Beach, and have two boys

John gave us a guided tour including the complex social conditions in Afghanistan and Iraq; Ur, the birthplace of Abraham; The Garden of Eden, Kenya, Somalia, & Nepal.
Deborah thanked John,  and introduced Trevor & Adriaan

Trevor recounted with about his own adventures with high school bus monitoring and his own RYLA transformation under the guidance of the Rev Alan Male at "Camp Cal" Dicky Beach
It gave him the confidence to start his law practice in Caloundra in 1983, and assisted in his elevation to tenpin bowling royalty

Adriaan Van Staden lives with his parents and siblings at his parent’s Glasshouse Mountains poultry farm.
He is a 21-year old studying Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Business at USC and works part time for Caloundra Law.
He is also an infantry soldier with the Australian Army Reserves and has just completed a 6-month assignment as security for incoming travellers quarantining at the Brisbane Airport hotels and a short stint at Cherbourg.
From Sue ... Adriaan has asked me to pass onto the Board his sincere appreciation for him being sponsored to attend RYLA 2021. I think we can all agree (after his presentation to the club on Tuesday) that he will be a great ambassador for our club.

An important announcement from District Governor Neil Black for all Rotarians in District 9600
Dear James Condon,

I wish to inform all Rotarians of the decision to sell the D9600 rooms at North Lakes.

This Board decision was based on the unsuitability of the premises as we combine with D9630 move into D9620. The rooms are too small to be used by the new larger District.

All District memorabilia, including the Sir Clem Renouf and Glen Kinross collections, will be displayed at Bostock House, the initial home of D9620.

The premises have served us well since they were purchased by PDG Dai Mason in 2013, but recently have incurred increased maintenance costs.

The money from the sale of the premises will be retained by the District and no decision has been made of its future allocation.

Should you have any questions regarding the sale please contact either myself or PDG Darryl Iseppi.

Thank you for your continued support of Rotary

Yours In Rotary
