Sergeant Ian introduced our chair for the day Darryl

Darryl welcome guest Wendy
Darryl noted that the AGM would start later in the meeting

Darryl was able to make up from last meeting when we had the “Why we joined Rotary” round table
He like the informality of our club but also our ability to get things done
He had to take off his thongs to prove that you could still actually be more informal

International toast was from “Still here“ John to the Rotary Club of Kathmandu charted 1959

James delivered the Presidents Report
  • A big thank you to Dave and Robyn for making their home available for our Melbourne Cup function. A good time was had by all
  • Attended the district online seminar on the Rotary Foundation
  • There were not enough applications for global grants. Remember these have the added benefit of partnering with an overseas club
  • “All I want for Christmas“ Raffle - Paul is helping Darryl get it all online. No paper tickets. Automatic winner generation system. Get behind it
Daryl has spoken to Gordon who is “progressing well”
He’s taking phone calls

Richard is home but convalescing for six weeks he was “very sick“

The board meeting was very positive
  • Christmas raffle
  • Thanks to Kath & Ian for making the home available for our Christmas function on Saturday, 4 December. In lieu of presents it was suggested that we each donate $10 to the Rotary Foundation
  • And with the added bonus that they received a five star Charity rating for the last 14 years they were established 100 years ago and in that time have spent $4 billion on projects
  • 16 December will be our last meeting for the year
And James, that was a very long joke for me to write down, but I was able to capture the punchline “men will never learn“

Directors
Deborah reported on our scheduled visit to the Men’s Shed next week “click the link“

Heritage walk in lieu of our meeting on the 30th Nov

The Christmas party will be $20 per person, and don’t forget to say Xmas on the transfer, or it will be treated as an anonymous donation

Mark thanked us for our donations to Bohol

Judy spoke about the Rotary Down Under magazine – it gives great examples of what work the Rotary Foundation does

John, who incidentally is making great progress with his Aussie accent, spoke about the Covid situation in PNG where the recent case surge is significant. They are calling for tents at the hospital. Rotary International is still active in PNG and John’s Company is helping out

Bernie reported that they were still waiting for the lease at the Community Hub.

The STEMM graduation is on 23 November. Our club has a special association with STEMM and past member Lyn Roberts is remembered through our $500 memorial bursary.
Supporting Teenage Mothers and Mentoring.

Merv reported that Paul is to be inducted as a member

Darryl reported on the list of prizes for the Christmas raffle with hopefully $4500 value.  It will be a virtual raffle, even with a system to automatically select winners, eliminating any conflict of interest. We’ve budgeted on ticket sales of $100 for each member. It should give us at least $4000 profit. Sellers will need to download the app. We hope to promote a report through our members social media community

Kath reported that Darryl’s 15-year-old grandson has secured a place on the “Windwood Passage“ experience. Seven students were selected from Queensland. They have eight days at sea and no technology is allowed - a shock to some we think

James mentioned the RAWCS Showcase 20th of November

Oh, and one more thing, he’s found The quote for the day from Dave‘s grandfather‘s book "Try again, for often it’s the last key“

Mark chaired the Annual General Meeting

A summary follows but please note these are not the actual minutes

There were three things
  • The financial report
  • The appointment of auditors
  • The election of office bearers
Roger has made sure that financials are available online, subject to the technical abilities of some members mobile devices, apparently

The auditor was confirmed as B.D.O who perform the service gratis

James nominated Jim for the president’s role next year. Jim said a few words about his experience at the Men’s Shed, and now being able to devote time to Rotary. He made reference to James' very large shoes which he would try to fill

And surprise surprise James gets to be the immediate past president

Debra was voted in as Vice President

Mark is going to be our new Secretary

And the treasurers role will pass to Dave

Merv would look after Membership

And Judy the Rotary Foundation director

There’s a ? on our Vocational Director

John will be spending time away but could still perform the International Directorship, maybe with a distinctive PNG focus

Community director is also open

Sue looks like the contender for Youth Director

Sergeant’s role will continue to be Ian

Pam will will look after Welfare

Deb will continue to run Programs

The youth protection officer will continue to be Mark, but it’s pretty much all online now

Roger is happy to continue with Public Relations

End of Annual General Meeting

And another one last thing, Darryl reminded us that numbers were needed for the Men Shed visit
