District Governor, John Lane has provided the following update, including on the spot reports, and asks us to consider if we are able to help our southern neighbours.
As you are all aware there have been a number of bush fires in recent days in both Victoria and New South Wales.
I have been in contact with the District Governors in both areas and advise the following:
The Victorian fires caused by severe weather conditions and high winds are controlled but not contained.
Dairy Farmers have been badly affected with loss of homes, livestock and fencing.
Refer to attached Newsletter which has more detail and also banking details for any donations.
The New South Wales fires around the Bega Tathra area appear to be more severe with loss of 65 houses and 35 caravans. In addition over 48 homes were damaged.
All roads in the area are now open to enable residents to return home.
District 9710 has decided not to establish a Rotary Fund but to ask for any donation to be forwarded to the local council Mayoral account which is: Bega Valley Shire Council Mayoral Appeal Fund ANZ Bega BSB 012525 Account Number 837535154
I am advised that tall the members of the RC of Bega who live in Tathra are fine and none have lost their homes
I also attach a copy of the report from the IPP of Bega Rotary.
