Our last meeting on Tuesday 28 August was chaired by Pam and appropriately so - as Pam is our Rotary Youth Exchange Student, Chloé 's Counsellor.
Our Travel Agent had the opportunity to tell us about his Vocation - about which he did not give away too many secrets except for his choice of Caloundra to establish the business.  Caloundra's gain was Noosa's loss!
President Bernie  is obviously warming up and had a lot of announcements to make - including:
  • A thank you regarding last week's Movie Night which raised around $2,150 for our farmers
  • Another thank you to the BBQ volunteers who last week raised around $590
  • A reminder that Gerry is retiring and we are looking for a replacement - perhaps two or three people to share the load
  • Our stock of Stubby Holders is diminishing ever so slowly so consideration is being given to using them as giveaways at the Golf Day and/or as speaker presentations
  • The Mental Health Day dinner at Pelican Waters Golf Club has been cancelled but a fashion parade is being organised - details to come
  • Book for the next RI Convention in Hamburg
  • Volunteer to help establish the Care Garden or introduce sponsors (even 'though we are not financially supporting it)
  • Our September meetings are all being held at the Pelican Waters Golf Club - registration is necessary to establish numbers
  • Bernie is seeking more responses to the suggested invocation as emailed.
Our Rotary Youth Exchange Student, Chloé Mear is spending a year with us.  She comes from Brandérion in North-western France, is 16 and speaks French but is also fluent in English and German.  She is the eldest of three children, has a sister and a brother, and loves reading, listening to music, writing or watching videos.

At school, Chloé studied 10 subjects, mostly academic and seems to have a very enquiring mind.  She also loves drama, the arts, dance and the theatre.

Chloé has travelled many places in Europe but nowhere as far as Australia.

Her presentation was informative, amusing and professional.  Thank you Chloé!

Remember, we are keeping a photo record of Chloe's year with us - see the photos in this album.

You may follow Chloé's blog by following this link.  You will also find her on Facebook.

A few more announcements were made before Sergeant Merv closed the meeting:

  • Darryl wants nominations for our Pride of Workmanship awards, preferably of exceptional young people
  • James reminded us that, in his words, Gerry's "age has caught up with me".  Full instructions supplied.  Apply to President Bernie or James, no experience necessary, on job training available.  Perhaps a task to be undertaken by a team?
  • James was pleased to announce that the donated car has been on-donated.  James says "it has taken a while to find someone, but it is a young couple about to have their first child and who don't have a car and have had  some difficult challenges in their life. But  they are doing well now.  They were most grateful and  I ensured they knew that the car had been donated to and by our Rotary Club.  The donor met members of the family when she signed over the car and she too was delighted."
  • Gerry updated us on Jan's health - it just goes to prove that one should not write emails while recovering from sedation.
