Michelle Ehmann - Executive Assistant, Carers Qld - "Who cares for the "Carers"

Gordon chaired the meeting, and welcomed guests Trevor and Michelle.
Gerry proposed the International Toast to the The Rotary Club of Bo, in Sierra Leone which he said has a population of exactly seven million.  (Alan didn't correct him so it must be true)

President Chris (and a large chunk of our membership) are currently on international duties at Bohol, in the Philippines so we struggled on without a President's Report.
Chris introduced Michelle.

Michelle is Executive Assistant at Carers Queensland Ltd, a not for profit organisation supporting unpaid family carers. With one in every eight Australians caring for a family member or friend, Carers Queensland is committed to providing specialised disability, aged, and carer support services.

Michelle’s role as Personal Assistant to the CEO uses skills honed over 20 years of administrative management to provide support the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors.

Michelle’s current project is the development and management of the Short Breaks for Carers project, an innovative collaboration between Carers Queensland and Airbnb, which enables eligible family carers to access no cost accommodation for short breaks from their full-time caring roles.

Carers Queensland has been running for 12 years, and has a staff of 70. The value of carers to our community is $1 billion/week, and this latest project allows the community to give them a practical and well deserved thank you.

Michelle had prepared a series of slides to explain the project, and they can all be seen in the Photo Album

Feel free to contact Michelle if you can provide assistance

Accommodation providers are asked for two nights mid week during non premium times - not a big ask.  Michell's favourite job is matching up the carers with the hosts.  A common response from carers is "they felt like people" for a change and the hosts say they learn a lot and find it a very positive experience.

Since taking over in July, Michelle has matched 15 hosts with carers, and expects to match another 14 before Christmas
Chris thanked Michelle.
