Next Tuesday's Meeting

Chloé Mear comes from Brandérion in North-western France, she is 16 and speaks French but is also fluent in English and German.  She is the eldest of three children.  She has a sister and a brother.

She loves reading, listening to music, writing or watching videos.  At school she studied 10 subjects, mostly academic and seems to have a very enquiring mind.  She also loves drama, the arts, dance and the theatre.

Chloé has travelled many places in Europe but nowhere as far as Australia.

At our meeting on Tuesday, Chloe will be telling us more about herself and her country.

Last week's Meeting
Membership Director & President Elect Chris Rees was in the chair last Tuesday to lead our Open Forum.  He welcomed Gordon back after some sick leave together with Ana (new member), Kath (Inner Wheel), Ken (Morwell, Vic) and then proposed - in Alan Still's absence - a Toast to the Rotary Club of West Torrens in Adelaide.
President Bernie was then invited to induct Ana Carolina into membership after providing members with some of her background.

Member Profile: Jim Lombard

Born in Lyon, France in 1941 from a Swiss father and a Czech mother, the family left France and moved to Switzerland in 1943 to settle in the French Canton of Neuchatel.

Jim studied Electronic Engineering and Communications at the Technicum Cantonal of St-Imier during 1958-62, graduating with an Engineering Degree.

In 1962 he joined C.I.R. (Companie pour L’Industrie Electronique) as a Quality assurance manager and Liaison officer between the Swiss government and French air force Dassault, and was involved in the development of new electronic equipment for the French Mirage 4A recently purchased by the Swiss Air force from Dassault in France.

Responding to the demand for qualified personnel for a developing Nation (an initiative of Prime Minister, Robert Menzies), Jim migrated to Australia in 1964.

During 1964-69 he worked in the television industry in the Riverina and NSW South Coast until he moved to the ACT to establish his own business and become the largest electronic service centre in Canberra.  He employed two apprentices who completed their three year term with the highest marks in the State.

Your member profile welcomed
We have heard from many of our members in the 'Three Minutes on Me' segment at our meetings, and we are just starting to learn about the vocations of our working members.

So, the editor of our weekly newsletter 'The Reel' would like to feature your Member Profile in The Reel.  In addition to the feature appearing in The Reel, it will make a perfect post for our Facebook page.

The Profile would include snippets of your working life, retirement highlights, the reasons you joined Rotary, and something of your life as a Rotarian in Caloundra and elsewhere.

We encourage you to put pen to paper and contribute to this segment please.

Don't be shy - we want to hear from you?  Just send an email to Les at one of our meetings.

Rotary's New Learning Center is Live!
Exciting things are happening with the new Learning Center.  Look out for the following enhancements as you explore the new Learning Center:

  • New Learning Plans
    • Courses in the Learning Center are kept short enough that you can complete them quickly.  When the topic is more complicated, you can be sure you're learning everything you need to know by following a learning plan.  Learning plans give members a series of courses to take on a topic or role.  Take the Getting Started with the Learning Center course first to learn how to find learning plans.
  • Virtual badges
    • Take a course and earn a virtual badge for your efforts.  The more course you complete, the more badges you earn.
  • Track your progress
    • See which course you've started and which ones you've completed on My Activities and My Dashboard pages.
