Michelle is Executive Assistant at Carers Queensland Ltd, a not for profit organisation supporting unpaid family carers. With one in every eight Australians caring for a family member or friend, Carers Queensland is committed to providing specialised disability, aged, and carer support services.

Michelle’s role as Personal Assistant to the CEO uses skills honed over 20 years of administrative management to provide support the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors.  Michelle’s current project is the development and management of the Short Breaks for Carers project, an innovative collaboration between Carers Queensland and Airbnb, which enables eligible family carers to access no cost accommodation for short breaks from their full-time caring roles.

Our last meeting
Grab Life by the Balls is a proactive and positive men's mental health movement aiming to make a positive difference to men's mental health before the s**t hits the fan.

This morning we were privileged to hear from Sam Parker who is a local dad, husband, chiropractor and founder of the Grab Life By The Balls movement.  The organisation has been running laid back events, such a burger nights and Friday morning bacon and eggs down the beach since November 2016.  The emphasis of these events is creating a movement centred around mateship, a simple yet effective way to combat the stats around men’s mental health.

The movement is planning a world record attempt for The World's Biggest BBQ to address the two very un-Australian stats: Australia doesn't hold any world records for BBQs and that six men a day die from suicide in Australia everyday.   Details of the attempt are here

Designed to engage men from all walks of life to Grab Life By The Balls in their own unique way, the movement draws on a combination of personal development, peak performance principles, sports psychology & positive psychology research delivered in a matter of fact, laid back, Aussie way.

In local news, a Coffee & Chin Wag event has commenced at Kings Beach at the Coffee Cat on Kings Beach.  The next is on Wednesday 16 October at 6.30am and then 30 October and 13 November.  Tell your mates.

Who will you invite?

Visit to Donations in Kind
A few of us joined others from local Rotary clubs at the Donations in Kind (DIK) Warehouse in Kingston, braving the extended two hour drive there and back in the safe hands of James.

Some sorted and packed books, others filled a container with hospital beds or moved medical equipment to another part of the warehouse to make room for the forklift to access the shelves.  Often during the week, with only two hands available, incoming goods get unloaded haphazardly so it was good to restore some semblance of order.  The irony is that the warehouse contents are growing as DIK cannot afford to ship any containers.  DIK's depleted bank balance needs to be re-stocked and hopefully our Rotary clubs will do that.

The plus in PolioPlus
When we talk about PolioPlus, we know we are eradicating polio, but do we realize how many added benefits the program brings? The “plus” is something else that is provided as a part of the polio eradication campaign. It might be a hand-operated tricycle, access to clean water and additional medical treatment, or providing bed nets or soap. Learn how we are doing so much more than eradicating polio.
